Following the proposed liquidation of Thornham Car Sales Ltd, BPI Asset Advisory — the RICS-regulated team of specialist surveyors — was instructed by the directors to oversee the valuation and disposal of the remaining vehicle fleet, working in collaboration with Anthony Milnes of Leonard Curtis, the proposed liquidator.
As part of the instruction, the team managed the uplift and relocation of over 60 vehicles within a restricted timeframe, completing the process under full insurance cover — helping to safeguard value and ensure readiness for sale.
“Time was of the essence in this case and following my introduction, I reactively provided advice for the company later that day. With the vehicles at risk, they were all uplifted and secured within an incredibly short time frame from the initial conversation with the director of company, thereby securing the realisations for the benefit of creditors,” said Anthony Milnes of Leonard Curtis.
BPI Asset Advisory also undertook full vehicle cataloguing, producing detailed individual videos for each vehicle to maximise buyer confidence and online engagement. Drone footage was commissioned to support wider marketing efforts and increase visibility of the fleet.
The sale offered a varied selection of used vehicles, including models from Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Citroen, Fiat, Ford, Jaguar, Kia, Land Rover, Mercedes, and Peugeot, with registration years spanning from 1997 to 2017. The catalogue attracted over 350 bidders, with the auction generating a hammer price in excess of £100,000 — a strong result for a mixed-age fleet requiring targeted marketing and accurate presentation. In total, realisations were more than 30% higher than expected trade values.
Post-sale, the BPI team managed buyer collections and all associated logistics, providing a smooth and transparent process for both buyers and the appointed insolvency professionals.
“This sale demonstrates how we can deliver value quickly and efficiently under formal instructions, while meeting RICS standards and offering tailored marketing and disposal solutions,” said Luke Hartshorn, Director at BPI Asset Advisory.
With its expert valuation team and access to BPI’s in-house marketing and auction delivery platform, BPI Asset Advisory continues to provide trusted support to insolvency practitioners, lenders, and professional advisors across a wide range of asset types.
