After more than five decades of welcoming travellers and creating memories, the Redbeck Motel in Crofton, Wakefield, has closed its doors for the final time. Known for its 24-hour service, famous breakfast specials, and warm hospitality, the motel has been a fixture of the community since opening in 1969.
Over the years, the Redbeck welcomed not only everyday visitors but also music legends such as Sir Tom Jones, Diana Ross, Shirley Bassey, Danny La Rue, and The Three Degrees. Its presence on television shows including Emmerdale further cemented its place in local and national culture.
With plans approved to redevelop the site for housing, the closure marks the end of an era. Commenting on the motel’s social media, Managing Director Peter Worth JP reflected on its legacy: “From the early morning coffees to the late-night chats, the Redbeck has been more than just a stop on the road – it’s been a home. We’ve gone out with a bang – the Redbeck is gone, but it’s not gone forever.”
To preserve a piece of this history, BPI is managing the online auction of the motel’s entire contents, with no reserve. The sale includes the famous Redbeck signage, bedroom and restaurant furniture, catering equipment including commercial fryers, griddles, ovens, stainless steel walk-in fridges and freezers, pass-through dishwashers, microwaves, white goods, vending machines, and more.
The auction runs until 12th March, offering collectors, businesses, and local enthusiasts a unique opportunity to own a tangible part of Wakefield history.
