BPI specialises in the start-to-end management of asset disposal, taking away the hassle and stress for those companies that have made the difficult decision to cease trading. When BPI were approached by a modular building company to maximise the financial return on their assets, the BPI team were more than happy to help. It resulted in BPI’s biggest single sale and a successful, positive outcome for the seller during what was a difficult time.
The challenge
A major modular building manufacturer, renowned for creating sustainable communities, faced the difficult decision to cease operations due to challenging market conditions.
The company had built a reputation for delivering modern, cost-efficient low-carbon homes through technology-driven processes. However, rising market pressures ultimately forced its closure, leaving behind a significant number of high-value assets requiring disposal.
These assets included specialised equipment such as a modular building assembly line, a Liebherr reach stacker, CNC machinery, and tools. The disposal of such complex and large-scale assets required a professional and efficient solution. To ensure maximum returns, the company turned to BPI Asset Disposal Specialists.
The asset disposal solution
The modular building company was introduced to BPI through a referral from Lighthouse Modular, a leading manufacturer in the sector, which had previously benefited from BPI’s expertise in asset disposal.
In just two weeks, BPI’s team worked diligently to inspect, catalogue and photograph over 700 lots. This thorough process ensured accurate descriptions and high-quality listings for online bidders, increasing buyer confidence and attracting global interest.
Some of the highlights from the auction included:
• 2022 Striebig CNC panel and wall saw
• A fully remote-operated modular/framed building assembly line
• 2020 Liebherr LRS 545 reach stacker ideal for heavy-duty lifting
• 2017 Hundegger CNC controlled saw and timber processing machine for precision woodworking
• Remote-operated CNC multi-function router/nailer/stapler optimised for modular assembly
• 3.5 Ton Dodd single crab gantry crane for material movement
• 2017 Hyster forklift ensuring reliability and versatility for various on-site needs.
BPI seamlessly managed the entire online auction over a two-week period, prioritising transparency and efficiency. After the sale, BPI’s team ensured smooth and timely collection of assets, arranging logistics to provide a hassle-free experience for both the seller and buyers. Additionally, they oversaw the full clearance of the premises, returning the building entirely empty.
The auction results
The auction exceeded expectations, generating over £750,000 in sales and delivering significant financial returns, crucial to the modular company’s wind-up process.
The sale attracted over 500 registered buyers, including construction companies and modular building manufacturers from across the globe. Buyers came from countries such as Lithuania, Canada, United States, Northern Ireland and the UK, drawn by the opportunity to acquire high-quality assets in excellent condition.
BPI’s 24/7 online auction platform, BPI Auctions, played a key role, providing buyers with an accessible, transparent and convenient way to bid, while streamlining the selling process for the company.
Nathan Burnham, Associate Director at BPI, said: “This auction created an incredible opportunity for modular building and construction professionals to acquire premium machinery and tools at excellent value for money.
